About the Department

The Department of Business Management was established in 1989 and later renamed as Department of Business Administration. The aim of the department is to impart adequate management knowledge and develop managerial, communication, leadership and entrepreneurial skills in students. The program leads the students to pursue their studies of MBA and other business oriented courses. Periodically, the department conducts seminars, workshops, conferences in the college and the students are also encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities at other colleges. Guest lectures and industrial visits are also organized to enhance the quality and content of the program. In addition, discussion methods and interaction methods are followed to develop debating and leadership skills.

The Department Goal
  • To motivate the students to achieve more university ranks.
  • To offer practical exposure to students.
  • To make use of modern teaching aids and methodology like LCD, E- Learning etc.
  • To expose students to real time situations through case study methods, role-play exercises and management games.
  • To bring out the hidden potentialities of the students by encouraging them to participate in seminars, conferences, workshops and symposium etc.
  • To provide for Institutional Training for a period of 30 days to enable students to acquire industrial exposure.

Association Activities

The students’ Association named “SYNERGY” helps in bringing out the hidden caliber of the students. Several activities like Seminars, Guest Lectures by Eminent Industry based professionals, Management Games, Role Play and Industrial Visits are conducted for the overall development of the students.

Add-On Course

The department has adopted Advertising Management as add on course. It helps the students to learn about the modern trends in the advertising world. The course is comprised of two theory papers, viz “Introduction to Advertising” and “Advertising Media and its Practices”. In addition, it comprises of project and practical sessions on advertising.

Course Introduction

The program leads the students to pursue their studies of MBA and other business oriented courses. Periodically, the department conducts seminars, workshops, conferences in the college and the students are also encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities at other colleges. Guest lectures and industrial visits are also organized to enhance the quality and content of the program. In addition, discussion methods and interaction methods are followed to develop debating and leadership skills.

The students are given Internship training during the final year of their study for a period of 6 weeks which thereby helps them work in an environment where practical knowledge can be gained through interaction with the employees. The department has produced 6 university ranks.

Net Banking

Net Banking has been designed with an aim at imparting an introductory level net banking program for students. On completion of the course the students will be able to use computers for basic purpose of preparing his personnel/business correspondence letters, surfing the Internet, sending mails, using internet banking services etc. It also ensures that the students become digitally literate.

The program came into existence in the year 1989. The duration of the course is 3 years. The degree provides the students with a wide range of managerial skills and competence in a particular area of commerce. The course is covering major aspects of executive communication ranging from drafting letters, memos and office correspondences besides exposing the students to various aspects of office related follow-ups. The information and communication related concepts, the latest trends in technological fronts, extensive passages on the physical aspects of computer systems are also provided.

Furthermore, Practical classes on MS-OFFICE, TALLY accounting software in computer laboratories are given to give a good exposure to the concepts learned in class room atmosphere. At the end, a visit is organized to an industry where processes reminiscent of aspects learned in class rooms are practiced, to enable the students to get hands on training and clarifications if any. Eventually, the students are asked to prepare a detailed project report documenting all aspects of their learning out to ADD ON program marks the end of the program.

About the Department

The Department of B.Com(I.T) was established in the year 2009. At present, the Department has 4 staff members and 134 students. The members of staff are fully qualified, motivated and dedicated towards maintaining healthy staff-student relationship. They play a vital role in guiding and shaping the students in following the latest global trends.

The Department consists of 90 boys and 44 girls. Most of the students are from rural areas with Tamil as the medium of instruction at the higher secondary level. The Department has been taking efforts to continually enhance the quality of education by strengthening the teaching learning process. The faculty members work as a team to produce better results. They prepare the academic calendar, lesson plans and the valuation schedule and execute them with the approval of the principal.

Every semester has three continual internal assessment tests and the results will be sent to the parents in the form of progress reports. The members of the staff organize seminars, symposium and conferences in the college through Department association named “COMMIRTH”. The students are sent to other colleges to participate in cultural and academic programs.

The Department is very keen in placing students in companies of national and international repute. Alumni of the Department work for companies like TCS, Sutherland, HCL, DELL, CTS, CITY Bank, etc. and are serving as academicians and entrepreneurs also.

The Department, through its association “COMMIRTH”, organizes conferences, guest lectures, industrial visits, educational tours, etc., for the students so that they may equip themselves to be a part of the society and make measurable contributions.

The Department has organized national conferences in co-ordination with the other commerce Departments. The Department has organized many guest lectures, career counseling and training programs, workshops, alumni meets, fifteen extension activities and has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with industries since 2009.

Add-On Course

The Department of B.Com(I.T) has taken up the course of Export and Import Management as an Add-on Course for the benefit of the commerce students. The course comprises 3 papers and one practical training module. The subjects include Fundamentals of Export and Import Management, Export Procedures and Export Marketing. Apart from this, practical training is also provided.

This add on Course benefits the students in terms of awareness about the export and import documentation, procedures and international marketing.

This program is the largest of the introductory programming courses. The topics focusing on the introduction to the computer applications emphasizing modern software engineering principles are object-oriented design, decomposition, encapsulation, abstraction, and testing. Programming Methodology teaches the widely-used programming languages along with good software engineering principles. Emphasis is given on good programming style and the built-in facilities of the languages. The course is explicitly designed to appeal to humanists and social scientists as well as hard-core technologists.

Information technology department is considered a bridge between computer science specializations and organizational and administrative fields whereby a student gains knowledge and acquires skills necessary to develop, design and maintain systems and then utilize them in financial and administrative applications. The dynamic world of IT has been demanding for more diverse talents day by day. Taking into account this demand for specialized IT professionals, this course is meant to cater to the demand in IT. About the Department

The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2002, to promote higher education in the field of Biotechnology. The Department offers a three year B.Sc., Degree Programme in Biotechnology, two year M.Sc., Degree Programme in Biotechnology, M.Phil., and Doctoral Programme leading to PhD., (FT/PT) in Biotechnology from the academic year 2007-2008.  Currently the combined program has 155 students with 6 dedicated and qualified faculty members assisted by a technical staff member. The Department of biotechnology facilitates the students to prepare the organic soap in the department. The main motto is to make the students as young entrepreneur. Frequent hands on training are conducted to the student’s communities for developing their professional skills and to start their own business as low investment home based entrepreneurship opportunities.

  • Mushroom Cultivation

The Department of biotechnology gives hands on training program on mushroom cultivation to the students. Training deals about mushrooms, their health properties and benefits, their cultivation, processing and how to run a mushroom production farm. More specifically, trainers need to learn about the various tasks involved in the whole process of mushroom cultivation, the various types of cultivation according to the various types of mushrooms, and the processing and transformation of cultivated mushrooms. 

  • Organic Farming

The Department of Biotechnology initiated cultivation of medicinal plants through organic farming. The farming combines tradition, innovation and scientific technology. The motto is to maintain long term soil fertility, minimize the soil degradation, erosion and pollution, and optimize biological productivity and to promote a sound state of health.

  • Vermicomposting

The Department of Biotechnology gives training on vermicompost production to the students. The main objective of vermicomposting training is to produce organic manure of exceptional quality for the organically starved soil. Agricultural wastes, wastes from dairy and animal farms are usually dumped into at places resulting in a foul mess. By vermicomposting the agriculture waste, wastes from dairy and animal farms are utilized efficiently for organic farming and also help the students to make a value-added product.

The department of Biotechnology introduced the Add on course titled Nano medicine and Mushroom Cultivation in the year 2015 and 2019. It is a certificate course approved by Bharathiar University.

  • Nanomedicine

 Nano medicine contains two papers: Fundamentals of Nano science and Introductory Nano biotechnology and Nano medicine. Nano medicine is at the forefront of modern healthcare. Nanoparticles offer a new platform for drug delivery that can extend the “patent life” of drugs, but also greatly increase the targeting and effectiveness of therapy.

  • Mushroom cultivation

 Mushroom cultivation contains two theory papers such as Fundamentals of Biology and Mushroom Cultivation and one practical paper. The college has excellent facility for growing a wide range of edible fungi. After successful completion the students will be able to develop their self confidence and personal skill towards self-employment.

Vocational Courses

With the support from BSS vocational training Programmes, a one year course in Medical Lab Technology (MLT) and two years Diploma course in Medical lab Technology (DMLT) was offered during 2019-2020. These programmes are delivered through its Vocational and IT Education Institutes which are well established with sufficient modern infrastructure facilities and in-house training facilities.
