The department of commerce with Banking and Insurance was established in the year 2016 with a vision to become a centre of excellence in commerce education with a special focus on Banking and Insurance – the two eyes of any economy through imparting contemporary skills.
The course was introduced in the year 2016-2017. The course is tailor-made for aspirants of Banking and insurance and other banking courses in the domain of commerce by drawing rich academic inputs from contemporary syllabus reflecting recent developments.
Banking and Insurance is yet to have an association of its own. Presently, it works under the banner of the student association of B.Com. Corporate Secretaryship – “CoYouth”.
Comparatively, graduates of commerce with B.&.I. are given priority in employment in leading banking and insurance companies and other accounting related jobs owing to having better exposure in the undergraduate program with industry specific curriculum.
Higher education prospects are quite good in view of the fact that the postgraduate department of any institution recognizes it on par with any program of commerce stream.
The department has chosen Office Automation and Accounting Software as its Add on Course as it is oriented with the job requirements of the students of this program and the same is in conjunction with the main syllabus.
The course covers major aspects of executive communication ranging from drafting letters, memos and office correspondences besides exposing the students to various aspects of office related follow-ups. Information and communication related concepts, the latest trends in technological fronts, extensive passages on the physical aspects of computer systems are also provided.
Furthermore, practical classes on MS-OFFICE, TALLY accounting software in computer laboratories are given to provide exposure to the concepts learned in class room atmosphere. At the end of the course, a visit is organized to an industry where processes reminiscent of aspects learned in class rooms are practiced, to enable the students to get hands on training and clarifications if any. Eventually, the students are asked to prepare a detailed project report documenting all aspects of their learning out of the course, marking the end of the program.
