The Department of B.Com(I.T) was established in the year 2009. At present, the Department has 4 staff members and 134 students. The members of staff are fully qualified, motivated and dedicated towards maintaining healthy staff-student relationship. They play a vital role in guiding and shaping the students in following the latest global trends.
The Department consists of 90 boys and 44 girls. Most of the students are from rural areas with Tamil as the medium of instruction at the higher secondary level. The Department has been taking efforts to continually enhance the quality of education by strengthening the teaching learning process. The faculty members work as a team to produce better results. They prepare the academic calendar, lesson plans and the valuation schedule and execute them with the approval of the principal.
Every semester has three continual internal assessment tests and the results will be sent to the parents in the form of progress reports. The members of the staff organize seminars, symposium and conferences in the college through Department association named “COMMIRTH”. The students are sent to other colleges to participate in cultural and academic programs.
The Department is very keen in placing students in companies of national and international repute. Alumni of the Department work for companies like TCS, Sutherland, HCL, DELL, CTS, CITY Bank, etc. and are serving as academicians and entrepreneurs also.
The Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology is a much-sought-after undergraduate programme. Employers value graduates who demonstrate skills and knowledge in both business and information technology domains. The aim of the programme is to create graduates who are able to offer and manage business solutions through information supported technology.
Students are exposed to the design and development of systems and engage in solving real-life problems and implement and continually adopt these systems to changing organisational needs. This programme enables students to become professionals in their fields providing them the perfect opportunity to pursue and succeed in their postgraduate studies.

The Department, through its association “COMMIRTH”, organizes conferences, guest lectures, industrial visits, educational tours, etc., for the students so that they may equip themselves to be a part of the society and make measurable contributions.
The Department has organized national conferences in co-ordination with the other commerce Departments. The Department has organized many guest lectures, career counseling and training programs, workshops, alumni meets, fifteen extension activities and has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with industries since 2009.

A B.Com(I.T) degree is a high value qualification among all non-professional bachelor degree programs. With a bachelor’s degree in commerce, students are eligible to apply for a job position in a large number of organizations, both in the governmental and industrial fields. It is indeed a business oriented degree, so industrial organizations prefer to appoint a B.Com(I.T) graduate in many positions like sales, commerce, purchase, stores, finance, law, hotel management, marketing, administration accounts, IT, KPO, BRO, ITES. IT engineer, associate engineer, systems manager/engineer, database manager, database security professional, software developer, software tester and many more.
The Department of B.Com(I.T) has taken up the course of Export and Import Management as an Add-on Course for the benefit of the commerce students. The course comprises 3 papers and one practical training module. The subjects include Fundamentals of Export and Import Management, Export Procedures and Export Marketing. Apart from this, practical training is also provided.
This add on Course benefits the students in terms of awareness about the export and import documentation, procedures and international marketing.
