Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science has hi-tech library with automated management system. The spacious main library spreads in 2,596 sq. ft which includes a reading area of 1,152 sq. ft., reference area of 504 Sq.ft. and the stock area of 560 sq. ft.. The PG Library is located in a separate block with a total area of 1,428 sq. ft.
The in-house library boasts a comprehensive collection of more than 26,452 volumes of books, to assist students enrich their academic knowledge. The college library houses a
diverse collection of 33 periodicals and are equipped with 12 computer systems featuring high-speed internet connectivity. There is a Reprography Section for photocopying facility.
The college library affords access to databases such as DELNET, INFLIBNET, NDL and Shodh Sindhu facilitating open access to a wide range of e-journals. Furthermore, students are encouraged to register in the networks in order to access its e-resources. The libraries maintain an extensive collection of resources including books, e-books, research journals, magazines, back volumes, newspapers, project reports and question banks.
The library’s software, Campes iLib, has been updated to the latest version MS SQL 7.9.4 to facilitate the circulation of books to students, staff and research scholars. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) enables students and staff in checking the availability of books and other library resources. Weekly and monthly reports are generated based on usage of library. Additionally, the software allows for the entry of purchased books, retrieval of data, stock verification and the generation of usage reports through the Integrated Library Management System (ILMS).
Each book in the library is assigned with an Accession Number and Barcode Label. Accession Register includes details such as title, author, publication, price, edition and ISBN. Library lends three books at a time to the undergraduate student and four books to the postgraduate students. The students are allowed to retain the library books for 15 days and they can renew or return after the issued date. The library can be accessed from 8 AM to 5 PM on all working days. Per day usage of library counts to 35 percentage.
As a best practice, the library has subscriptions for ‘The Hindu Newspaper’ and the copies are distributed to all the Departments on daily basis which encourage the students update and improve their reading habit. During College Annual Day “The Library User Award” is presented to two undergraduate and postgraduate students based on three criteria: regular usage of the library, highest transactions and best article writing. In Association with DELNET the college library has organized a webinar on “DELNET Networked Resources and Services” on 5th December 2020. The College NDLI Club has conducted book fair, organized webinars and also donated free books to the Government School students.
