The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2002, to promote higher education in the field of Biotechnology. The Department offers a three year B.Sc., Degree Programme in Biotechnology, two year M.Sc., Degree Programme in Biotechnology, M.Phil., and Doctoral Programme leading to PhD., (FT/PT) in Biotechnology from the academic year 2007-2008. The department is actively involved in research in thrust areas such as Nanotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Algology, Microbial Biotechnology and Clinical Biochemistry. The research projects carried out are outcome-based addressing the current challenges and problems faced by the society.
Vision
To advance the department as a potential center for research in various disciplines of Biotechnology, Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics to help the students to reform industries and redefine lives, beginning with agriculture to pharmaceuticals, drug discovery to Nanotechnology, Biotechnology by creating a platform for new products.
Mission
To facilitate the development of new technologies and products based on the sole applications of life science.
To help the students acquire knowledge and skills, to comprehend and commercialize technologies and products
