Duty, Devotion and Discipline are the three strings that weave the motto of the department which was incepted in the year 1989. The Department provides students with an excellent education that strikes an ideal balance between creativity and critical inquiry. At present, a group of sixteen qualified and dedicated members of staff are serving the department which is headed by Dr. P. Manjula Suresh. The department includes advanced classes in reading, writing, editing and communications. The main objective of the department is to impart training in developing intellectual personal and professional abilities through effective communicative skills and to ensure high standard of behavioral attitude among the students to shape socially responsible citizens. The department enlightens the students and provides ample opportunities to showcase their abilities.
Language asserts one’s individuality which is invariably acknowledged worldwide. This has stamped English as a Global Language or a Legacy that can be passed down to generations. To cater adequate gateways to take the students to the world of success, the Department started offering B.A.English from June 2012. Holding a bachelor’s degree in English itself provides myriad opportunities for a career in multiple industries including publishing, advertising, marketing, education, administration and media.

‘Literati’, the department association, actively conducts numerous literary activities and inter-collegiate literary fest for the students in and around Coimbatore. It aims at igniting the hidden talents of students. It provides grand platform to students to exhibit their skills in creative writing, enacting, singing, and playing musical instruments.
Language and literary learning unveils power of creativity and personal expression which students can explore through writing courses in fiction, poetry and the graphic novels. Fusing criticism and fancy, English is framed to unlock skills of analysis, verbal communication and cultural comprehension.
Job Opportunities
Medical Transcription and Call center management is the add- on course opted by the department for the first year students of B. A. English Literature.
