Counselling Cell

Svastika Student Counselling Cell

As part of a Student Support and Progression criterion for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), it is mandatory for every college to have counselling centres for adolescent students. Considering the need for professional counselling service, the department of Social Work, Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science has been rendering an exclusive counselling service for students in need since 2013. Teenage or adolescent years are considered to be the “best years in a person’s life”. But in reality, life for many young people are a painful experience filled with mixed messages and conflicting demands from parents, teachers, friends and oneself. It creates stress, and it can lead to serious depression in young people who are not trained to cope, communicate and solve problems. Students facing such issues are given support through the Swastika, the Student Counselling Centre. The service is free and available to all undergraduate students of Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science. The social workers in the counselling cell, provide support and guidance to students who are in crisis or who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. If a student is identified as having severe mental health issues, they are properly referred to the appropriate service institutions linked with the department. The counselling cell provides individual counselling, in which supportive therapy, environment modification therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), is practiced based on the person. The cell also offers a variety of topic-specific workshops throughout the year, like anger management, conflict resolution, power of positivity, transactional analysis etc. Through the counselling cell, the department of Social Work organizes various programs for various school children related to building coping strategies non-destructive ways to find relief, being able to talk to a counselor, expressing feelings, venting emotions, and to learn problem-solving skills.


Entrepreneurship Development Cell

Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the institution (Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC) strives to motivate the students and to nurture the culture of innovation through a conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem on the campus. The cell was set up to aid the growth of the society by enabling budding entrepreneurs realize their dream to start up their own enterprises.

The objectives of Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC

  • To promote entrepreneurial culture on the campus
  • To build the leadership skills among the students to enhance their entrepreneurial competencies.
  • To organize various programs like guest lecturers and orientation programs on entrepreneurship development
  • To provide vocation education training to the students
  • To focus on identification of business opportunities, specific product or services, support systems offered by financial institutions etc.

Activities of Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC

Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya- EDC was inaugurated on 13.07.17 by Mrs. S. Brindha Devi, Assistant Engineer, District Industries Centre, Coimbatore. She explained about the Central sponsored scheme and the New Entrepreneur-cum-Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS)implemented through DIC in rural areas and urban areas.The Inauguration Ceremony was attended by around 200 students of our college. Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC organized a Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurial Motivation on 9th August, 2017 in the college premises. Dr. S. Kumarvel, Quality manager, Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur was invited as the chief guest. He explained about the value added food products that can be manufactured and marketed. He detailed the food processing of fruits, vegetables, food grains, packaged foods, soft drinks, snacks and bakery product etc. Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC joined as a spoke institution in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Program (IEDP) of Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII-TN)and Anna University, Regional Campus, Coimbatore. EDC Coordinator attended three-day Faculty development Programme at Anna University on 2nd -4th August 2017. Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya Student Members attended E-Leadership Workshop organized by Anna University, Regional Campus, Coimbatore on 17th-18thAugust 2017.Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya-EDC Students attended one-day program “Tamilnadu State Innovator 2017” organized at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and technology on 29.8.2017.


Women Empowerment Cell

The Women Empowerment Cell of Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts & Science engages, sensitizes, empowers and safeguards the rights of female staff and students of the College. The cell organizes conferences, guest lectures, workshops, training programs, counseling sessions and awareness programmes on various women related issues to equip them with wide range of skills and knowledge for the betterment of self and society.
